The leading names on Friday’s PennyGems gainers screen came with very different business stories: a completed property purchase, a proposed acquisition, a development milestone and higher revenue guidance. OFAL, VIVK, QSI and EMAT were the four largest percentage gainers visible at the top of the October 9 snapshot. Each had a recent company announcement worth examining, although an announcement alone cannot prove what drove every trade.
At 8:01 a.m. Pacific on October 9, 2026, the screen showed OFAL at $0.626, up 52.15%; VIVK at $5.07, up 26.43%; QSI at $1.53, up 25.57%; and EMAT at $2.12, up 24.71%. Prices and changes are reproduced as displayed in that intraday screenshot. They are not closing prices, and the rankings could change before the session ends. The one-day charts below show later quotes, captured at 8:09-8:10 a.m. Pacific, including a pullback in EMAT.
OFAL completes a property acquisition in Japan

OFA Group’s 8 a.m. Eastern announcement on October 9 confirmed the acquisition of a 7,062-square-meter coastal property in Choshi, Japan, formerly known as Tokawaen. Title registration was completed October 1, so Friday brought the public announcement of an earlier completed step.
The property adds a tangible asset. That may appeal to investors looking for asset growth and new development possibilities, although future returns remain uncertain. Ideas for senior living and wellness remain at an early conceptual stage, with no development application submitted. The release disclosed neither a purchase price nor projected revenue. Those omissions leave readers without enough information to assess the economics of a future project. The completed purchase is firmer evidence than the proposed uses for the site.
VIVK proposes a Direct Midstream acquisition

Vivakor’s 9 a.m. Eastern release described a nonbinding letter of intent for a proposed $40 million acquisition of Direct Midstream, adding terms to its October 6 indication of interest. The business involves Permian Basin water and oilfield-waste infrastructure.
An infrastructure acquisition could appeal to investors seeking additional recurring cash flow, if the transaction closes and the assets perform. The valuation references targeted 2027 free cash flow of $10 million, dependent on investment. That is a future target, not current earnings. A proposed $10 million capital investment would reduce seller consideration dollar for dollar. The transaction is not completed and remains subject to due diligence, financing and definitive agreements. The headline value therefore needs to be read alongside the conditions and proposed payment structure.
QSI advances its Proteus development program

Quantum-Si’s news arrived October 8 at 4:05 p.m. Eastern, after the regular session. Friday was the first regular trading session following that announcement, making this an overnight catalyst rather than a new Friday release.
The company said its Proteus development program had detected 19 amino acids. Progress in identifying these building blocks of proteins may strengthen investor confidence in the planned protein-analysis platform. It is working toward all 20 by year-end 2026 and targets a commercial launch in the second quarter of 2027. That gives the story identifiable technical and commercial milestones. The remaining detection goal and launch date are still targets; the update does not establish a completed commercial rollout or customer sales from Proteus.
EMAT raises its 2026 revenue outlook

Evolution Metals & Technologies issued higher guidance at 8:40 a.m. Eastern. It lifted fiscal 2026 revenue guidance to $10 million to $11 million from $5 million to $8 million, approximately a 62% increase at the midpoint, and reaffirmed $400 million to $460 million for fiscal 2027. The ranges also appear in its SEC release exhibit.
The much larger 2027 outlook implies a substantial operating ramp. The company’s expectations rely on anticipated demand rather than contracted volumes, with equipment, feedstock, financing and execution still relevant. Higher guidance offers a concrete reason for attention, but it is management’s forecast. Actual production and reported revenue will show how closely the business follows that path.
What the gains do and do not establish
The useful comparison is the stage each company has reached. OFAL has registered ownership of a property. VIVK is negotiating a transaction. QSI is developing a product. EMAT has raised a forecast. Treating all four headlines as completed revenue events would erase the most important differences between them.
The screenshot also captures wide price ranges for some names, a reminder that the displayed gain is only one moment in a moving session. The SEC highlights liquidity and volatility risks in microcap stocks. Strong percentage moves do not resolve financing needs, business execution or the price available for a later trade.
